Maad Koush Iron Ore Pelletizing Plant

The Maad Koush Iron Ore Pelletizing Plant, spanning 37 hectares in the PGMISEZ, was conceived and built to yield premium-quality iron ore pellets. Commencing operations in the first quarter of 2020, the initial phase boasts a capacity of 2.5 million metric tons per annum. With the completion of shared infrastructure for both phases, the ongoing execution of the second phase is underway. The pellets produced stand out for their superior quality and consistency, attributable to the efficient grate kiln process employed in the production.

Pelletizing Process

Various techniques exist for manufacturing iron ore pellets, with the globally prevalent ones being the straight grate and grate-kiln technologies. The Maad Koush pelletizing plant capitalizes on the "Grate Kiln" technology. The induration process involves three key steps: a preheat traveling grate, a rotary kiln, and an annular cooler. This method's lower bed depth ensures a more uniform temperature profile, reduced pressure drop, and decreased power consumption. Subsequently, the pellets serve as direct reduction feed or blast furnace feed.

In the Grate-Kiln system, gases from the cooler are recycled to the kiln and grate, making it the most energy-efficient system for producing indurated pellets.

An inherent advantage of this approach lies in the production of higher quality iron ore pellets, particularly in terms of compressive strength, thereby minimizing losses during transportation.

    1. Deployed two electrostatic filtration systems
    2. Installed five dust collector bag filters in various plant areas
    3. Employed Wet Mills
    4. Implemented human wastewater treatment for green space irrigation
    5. Implemented water recycling in the production process
    6. Optimized energy consumption
    7. Reduced NOx, SOx, CO, and CO2 emissions through proper fuel utilization.
